Rudimentary test video gallery (removed) with the video media hosted on MEGA (and some existing YouTube ones to see how the HTML 5 player works).
I know that I need to perform a more robust “stress” test while evaluating the viability of this setup as a potential replacement for YouTube. If this works, I’ll probably trash the main media portal setup I’ve been trying to iron out and go with this much “simpler” foundation. – deleted that setup (2025.7.18)
UPDATE: added the search box, category selection, and sorting. Overall, the backend part is slightly more cumbersome. The pro version of the plugin has a more user friendly front end system for adding media on top of a host of other features. Lifetime price is $150 (annually billed is $48/year; I’ve been blogging since forever so it’s going to make sense to just do the lifetime).
Side note: MEGA embeds uses its own player (not the plugin’s HTML 5 player so I couldn’t get subtitles (SRT file) to work. MEGA’s link sharing system also obfuscates the actual filename so I can’t use the actual self-hosting option (where the plugin recognizes it as a supported video format) where it would use the HTML 5 player. I guess I can bounce it off the developers to see if there is anything they can do.
Impressions so far: Right now, it is looking pretty good for my needs since it integrates well (things like categories, easily finding a post I want to link to in the description, linking to a video from a posting, etc).
