Previously, I did a gaming related blog (starting around 2010ish while I was still living/working fulltime in Japan). That blog was originally on Ameba (アメーバ); I didn’t transfer anything over when I began using Blogger in 2012 for it though. Similarly, I was doing a personal investing/technical (narrowly focused) blog (also on Blogger) that I guess segues into this new blog. Why not just continue posting on that previous one when it does have some non-investing/tech related stuff on it? One reason is I don’t really care for the name of that older blog for the wider variety of things I want to write about (and simply renaming is means having to change every post that has a reference to another posting). Another is that older one just serves as a time capsule for that particular period (I have since merged the old and new sites together).
Looking back, I sort of wished I had been writing more about my other interests/hobbies/goals on there where it would’ve also been a running “stream of conscience” version of both of these other blogs. So yeah, starting that now (it is never too late to start anything). This is what this new (combined) blog is going to be (jisseikatsu means “real life” which is what this blog will be about).
Note: Yes, I know I write too damn much when I have multiple blogs full of text (and people have told me before to just write a book). I honestly have ZERO interest in having a physical book published because of what needs to be done, when I can just throw what I have in my mind onto blogs like this (warts and all) without having to worry about editing it all down to fit into so many pages. Furthermore, no one in their right mind would want to pay for this stuff anyway (nor do I have any interest in monetizing this stuff).
Why not do the modern thing of vlogging? Because this is the “old school” part of me (the time when video was non-viable, and text/photos ruled). It’s a format that works for me.
April 2025 Update: I’m in the process of transitioning away from Blogger (Google). After importing, some formatting was off as well as most link references. I spent over 30 hours manually fixing most of that. Most media (images) also failed to automatically migrate (most are still linked back to Google). I plan to try using a plugin to take care of that (hopefully it will work). My gaming blog will be migrated over BUT will remain separate (archived)
May 2025 Update: I decided to merge my old blog with this new blog. Despite it being already migrated from Blogger in to WordPress, that import failed to update most all of the link references (I needed to go and manually update all of those posts). I also noticed a bunch of unpublished drafts (stuff I had started writing but must have gotten interrupted, and never completed). I’m slowly publishing those making minor edits for now dead links/references (original ceration dates will remain intact).
