Apparently this update bricks iPhone 6/6 Plus’ only as it results in the loss of cellular service and in other cases, also the loss of Touch ID. Apple has since pulled the update from their servers. Users affected though will have to do an iTunes restore to downgrade back to 8.0 though. This of course won’t help those who did an OTA update and have to wait until they get home.

One of the issues I have when it comes with iOS, is the lack of wider quality assurance testing (sort of like how it is with OS X). One has to be a part of the iOS Developer Program (primarily targeted at iOS application developers so they can test their apps against iOS, including pre-release beta versions which includes betas of updates).
iOS developers though are normally focused on testing their apps first and place less of a priority on actually testing the underlying operating system. As a result, these kind of major issues can happen (but something like this where it accidentally kills off the telephony capabilities of a device, is something that should have been caught via normal quality assurance testing).
