Alibaba (BABA) IPO prices at the top end of the range

$68.  Begins trading today.  Don’t have any IPO shares so I’m just going to sit this out until the dust settles.  The average prices insiders and initial investors have shares at are around $2.30ish/share.  So yeah, many of those folks are going to make a ton of money ($8 billion worth of shares held by early investors are not being subject to the 1 year lockup imposed).

Thus there is going to be some volatility.  But what’s going to be more interesting is what kind of supply/demand imbalance there will be when market makers match buyers/sellers to determine the actual opening price on the trading floor.Even then, I’m not sure if I even plan to invest in the future anyway.

Alibaba is of course China’s largest e-commerce companies which is best explained by this Wall Street Journal site.
