I bet Apple and Google are salivating about this technology

Thin displays from Japan.
Backing up a bit, I remember in 2004 at Sony’s Showroom in Ginza, they were showing off (basically a technology demo) a flexible OLED display panel.  The display itself was small (around 3.5″-4″ diagonal) but could be flexed enough to wrap around your arm (think wearable).  The OLED technology itself has made commercial headway, but not the thin/flexible factor (due to application and production costs).

Still, that hasn’t stopped the R&D and push to commercialize the technology which Japan continues to lead the way in.  First up, we have the worlds thinnest plasma display (thinner than a credit card and can be easily rolled up).  This first video shows a large form factor geared towards the television market and specialized applications as shown in the video (like video walls).

This next one however is exactly the kind of tech Apple, Google, and Samsung (who are likely in the process of attempting to copy the technology) are salivating about (high resolution and absolutely thin).  Cost is going to be a factor (nothing that economies of scale can’t take care of after a few years in production).
