Okay, this is really turning out crazier than I expected when it comes to exposure and how much viral marketing is going on…. again, this post documents my earlier thoughts.
Many folks love BABYMETAL. Many folks hate BABYMETAL (for reasons described in the above). These girls are playing at events that some bands can only dream of getting to play at. Whether is still at the novelty stage is yet to be seen. What this international exposure means for them when they return to Japan also is unknown. I can only assume based on prior information as well as how Japanese media likes to then pile on to the extreme, means their exposure will go up multi-fold in Japan. And while some photo ops may just be a funny one for some to take part in, all it does is create more exposure (it’s free PR).
The guys from Anthrax, I can see them actually digging what BABYMETAL are doing as they’ve never really given a shit about stuff like this (look back at “I’m the Man” where they did parodized rap and “Bring the Noise” where they collaborated with Public Enemy in a melding of hip hop/rap and metal and breaking down that wall).
My only concern is that it’s all going to burn these three young girls out really quickly. They expend a lot of energy with their choreography and traveling takes its toll.
