I expected a lot of “popcorn” moments once this regime (in the US) took over, but this whole thing with Signal and then lying under oath about it says a lot (because they know how much cover they have with the entire Federal law enforcement apparatus being captured in addition to the congressional majority that has remained silent about all of these abuses).
While these Kremlin assets aren’t hiding anything from Russia intelligence (since they are turning that over to the FSB and GRU anyway), it’s the now open lanes to other foreign adversaries who have more than likely compromised all of their devices, and have been gathering their comms and everything else (kompromat worthy material that can be used to blackmail them). Anything operational also puts the lives of intelligence agents and military troops who are deployed at further risk.
ICE continues “disappearing” people (a farmworker activist was arrested and detained in Tacoma, Washington while a Tufts University doctoral student from Turkey was detained). These are all fascist level intimidation tactics and is dangerous territory in terms of having a chilling effects on peoples first amendment rights in this country (which is why large scale mass protests are fundamental to fighting against autocratic dictatorships including this one in the US that is getting closer to consolidating power.
More spontaneous protests are happening as a result including the one taking place on March 27th in Tacoma.
I personally feel we are going to need to engage in a longer term general strike relatively soon (I understand there are organizations working with unions on this given the scale). The April 5th protest also takes on a much more important meaning now with this ramped up squashing of constitutional rights taking place. Furthermore, April 20th is the deadline for when this cabinet heads need to report back to the dictator-in-chief regarding border security (where some expect that entire issue to be reframed as an “invasion” as a national emergency and martial law to be declared).
I’ve already been advising people that I know to not come to the US (due to the increasingly hostile interrogations happening during entry at airports).
