The migration of my old personal/investing blog has been a real pain (mostly with the entries for the first few years). Many of them had html “break” tags at the end of every line. And then many lacked the proper paragraph break. The earliest ones I had to copy/paste them through text cleaners (one to remove html tag formatting) and then through a line break remover (and then pasting that back into WordPress). From the 2012 posts, I can edit and then convert to blocks and then add the proper paragraph tags. Still a time consuming process. I also tried using a template that matched the original (but realized the lighter color scheme was frying my eyes).
At the same time, I’ve been re-reading many of those old posts. Some of the investing related ones are still very applicable with what is going on today (capitalism gone wild/late end stage capitalism). Makes me realize that this old blog is a very relevant time capsule. I initially considered merging that old and this new blog together, but then decided to just keep them separate. I am now re-thinking this. Once I complete fixing most of it, I might end up merging them (it will make referencing old postings easier). The other “bad” part is nothing is categorized (I’m just going to tackle that later). My gaming blog (archival mode) which I haven’t yet migrated, will remain separate since that is a specific niche and also full of outright “first world problem” rants.
Digressing, many of those old posts were ungodly verbose and long (I definitely found the current day me wanting to tell that past me to keep it concise). Back then, I definitely had a photographic memory, but that is no longer the case (certain things I remember well, but other stuff is like a “blank wall” now). Going through this process, I definitely should’ve have transitioned platforms years ago (based on re-reading sections of all the things I was criticizing Google about years ago where they are even worse today).
