Yet Another Data Breach – Discord User Info

I’ve said it before. These companies are run by INCOMPETENT FOOLS that hide behind excessively long terms of service agreements that make it clear once you read them, that they don’t give a shit about really protecting that data (else, we’d be allowed to sue them and the executives for all they are worth). This time, it is a 3rd party customer service provider for Discord that was compromised where user information and stored scanned ID’s (you know, for those who sent that to verify their age).

The fact that it was an “unauthorized party” which managed to breach the security of this 3rd party company (the one that likely handles ID verification) shouldn’t distract from the fact that both that company and Discord, have insufficient security to begin which allows such breaches to occur (and this goes for every other company that has had these issues where they skate away with a slap on the wrist).

It’s why when I see all of this age verification bullshit going on, know for a fact that once you hand over that government ID or biometric data, that it will be no surprise when there will be more cases in the future of that info being leaked. It’s why my personal course of action is “hell no” and will simply walk away from platforms (like Discord, Twitch, YouTube, etc) that require this to continue using them.
