Speaking of rage and iPhone 6 pre-orders….

There’s some funny raging going on with iPhone 6 pre-order failures (check the comments section)….

Perspective… first world problems.  It’s just a phone (err, well a portable mobile computing device that can do phone calls).  Could Apple (and carrier partners) do better?  Of course they could (and should).  But web sites really suck at this kind of spike traffic in general no matter how much load balancing is in place (there’s just all the other choke points that can cause these sort of meltdowns).  Furthermore, Apple does realize that these short term glitches, also plays in their favor.

WHAT?!

Part of it is about perception.  People want to pre-order quickly because of that fear that they’ll have to wait a long time to get the product in their hands.  So you end up with a self-fulfilling prophecy of overloaded servers, increasing estimated deliveries, and an overall frenzy during the first few hours.

They really are one of the few companies with such a captive customer base that is willing to put themselves through the ringer when it comes to pre-ordering product to where they get stressed up about it.  And despite some of the pissed off remarks, very few aren’t going to 100% go off and buy a competitors product, or actually stop using Apple products completely.

It’s like this scene from Return of the Jedi (replace the light saber with an iPhone 6) – Apple in this case would be the emperor.
