The city of Yokosuka began using generative AI to create an “avatar” of the mayor (utilizing visual and audio datasets of Katsuaki Uechi) in order to have this AI representation of him conduct some of the PR in fluent english. While this is an example of one of the potential positive uses of generative AI, it also highlights how video and audio data can be potentially used in the wrong way.
The Pandora Box is already open and cannot be easily closed with generative AI. The issue is there are no guardrails in place to deal with the illicit use of one’s audio and video likeness. Basically, there will be a point where one cannot simply believe what they are seeing/hearing on video.
