It’s sad how this world is generally a very beautiful place, but you have these rich, corrupt, power hungry assholes at the very top across the globe (who are the minority in terms of sheer numbers) that make this world not so wonderful at times for everyone else. With AI, folks like Altman, Zuckerberg, Musk, Nadella, etc are more about using AI to eliminate as much humans from the equation. These folks are pushing for the ignorance of the human species as a whole when many utilize it not as a tool (for assistance), but easily use it to replace actual critical thinking skills, to replace actual creativity in the arts, and to essentially strip out all the other things that give personality to those things that surround us.
This innate desire of mine (over the past several months) to just unplug and disconnect from these platforms is something that I thought was on the rarer side. It turns out that there are a lot more older folks/those in the tech industry who are similarly reaching this crossroads of wanting to eschew technology and turn into the equivalent of a digital hermit. It’s these other demographics of social media addicted people that are literally handing their cognitive thinking abilities over to this garbage in, garbage out AI.
I have long had strong opinions about AI (more specifically with how corporate executives, the AI industry, and the financial press have presented the narrative on the technology) where I’ve often times had to temper what I said/wrote (in a more community related setting) so as to not start an actual argument that could derail the vibe of that public forum (Twitch chat being a good example of watering down my thoughts on this stuff). But as someone who has been heavily involved in tech myself, I absolutely concur with the disgust that was written in this essay AND with the following sentiment.
