May 1st has two different focuses. In Washington D.C., the entire month (continuing into June and possibly longer) will consist of 24/7 sit-in’s (this is one of the first mass longterm occupations) at the National Mall. The 50501 Movement is not partnered with this particular plan of action though.
This Mayday movement is effectively a non-violent civil disobedience action which has a good probability of having law enforcement present (occupying the National Mall, monument areas, and near the White House will be challenging because of D.C.’s security considerations; law enforcement will eventually be called in to have them disperse). I know there will be a point where this type of occupation will need to take place on a wide scale.
50501’s May 1st organization is the usual protest rally at each states capitol/government office buildings/halls for supporting workers (the backbone of the economy) and unions that ensure workers rights are preserved plus workers aren’t taken wholesale advantage of by employers.
As noted, I didn’t participate in the April 19th protest (which was much more loosely organized due to the holiday weekend; its focus could be prioritized by local organizers as a localized day of action). In the case of my state, it was a community service day (like cleanups of parks and beaches) along with non-50501 protests at multiple locations (movement organizers were not present). As a result, I didn’t find local coverage this time around and no mention was made of how many protestors showed up nationwide.
