Twitch website UI Change: They Don’t Care

One week and counting… I would say they (Twitch) don’t care.  The votes/comments are still a blip statistically (stuck in the 4-digit vote and 3-digit comment range in the first week which exemplifies how the steam is running out).  Whatever feedback Clancy heard (on his own streams) doesn’t matter a bit either; if it meant anything, he could’ve said something by now (or if it was disagreeable to him, have had it reversed by now).  Like many things, the silence is all you need to know.

And they (Twitch “leadership”) would have a point; how many are actually walking and closing their wallet?  They know it’s a mostly captive audience (where that community element is so locked up that many who are dedicated in support of their favorite creators, aren’t going to stop spending money like at least for their channel subscription).

Myself, I’m probably much less “sticky” since I’ve walked (voted with my wallet) from many things I’ve patronized before.  With Twitch, there is an alternative means of supporting ones favorite content creator (directly tipping and bypassing Twitch completely).  Twitch channel emotes are fun BUT are expendable at this point (can’t see myself throwing money even if it is a pittance, at this clown show that Clancy is running).  I’ve waffled on this before but this is probably the tipping point with closing that wallet.

I hit the cancel subscription button tonight on ALL of my active subs (though many are recurring and won’t end from anywhere between January 2025-May 2025).  While my Twitch wallet still has a couple of hundred dollars remaining, I’m still calculating the best means to spend it down (extending subs selectively or bits).  At this time, I don’t know if I will change my mind about this either even if they revert the change by the end of this month (which I am kind of doubting will happen).

UPDATE:  at the tail end of the work day on the 20th (west coast Seattle), they silently reverted it (at least proved me wrong that they would just ignore the feedback); I posted the above shortly after midnight on the 20th Pacific time.  While they did finally relent, the better PR move would’ve been to also address why and how it was all done (again, the silence either way is all you need to know).  But at this point, whatever.  As per the above, it doesn’t really change my mind either (given their scattershot attempt at prioritizing what is important).
