Twitch Viewers That Lack Reading Comprehension Skills

Normally I don’t put people directly on public blast.  But I made a huge exception for this one to highlight an actual encounter I had with someone on Twitch who thought they could Google-fu and bullshit their way around me.  Sorry, but play with fire this way, and your ass will get burned.

When they miss details just discussed and then try to make like it was something that hadn’t even been said just a few minutes earlier, it takes a special sort of person to pull that type of crap.  Then when I eventually reach the point of respectfully wanting to end the conversation, but the other party wants to continue with their bullshit/doubles down on it with a patronizing attitude and tells me to chill when they started this crap, you are now fair public game for being flamed/put on blast (where the courtesy of actually redacting their account name is out the window).

My moderator cap (for the channels I am a moderator for) as well as everything else comes off for this because this one individual wasted my time for 30 minutes on that stream, and then wasted another 30 minutes of my time having to make this post.  Folks who know me in this community know how I am/the amount of support I do provide (I also don’t care about having any of that advertised because I personally do not care for that sort of attention).  But when push comes to shove, I will put that reputation on the line against someone like this asilverlining account any day.

VOD: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2237504603?t=8h11m05s (it’s behind a sub requirement though so I have just the pertinent portion of the VOD here; the above chat is also on screen).

The discussion with the streamer began at 8h11m, prioritizing a gimbal/wireless mic at 8h15m, and at 8h17m, I asked which iPhone model she had (to see if it was one with USB-C).
At 8h19m50s, asilverlining followed (the streamer has follower required to chat). I knew when they brought up an Android phone, part of that might have been an attempt to try and bait the conversation into iPhone vs Android (lot of that happens since some folks like to engage in that type of tech shaming arguing). Didn’t take the bait since I noted the Samsung Galaxy option at 8h22m49s.

They then pivoted to USB-C to Lightning at 8h23m51s (failing reading/listening comprehension 101 when the streamer had already confirmed just a few minutes earlier they had an iPhone 15 Pro Max which has USB-C).  I responded that it was straight USB-C to USB-C at 8h24m19s.

Basically, this person likely came hot into this conversation from a follow and was hoping to get into an iPhone vs. Android and/or USB-C to Lightning argument while failing to comprehend the important details that were already talked about a few minutes before.  You cannot tell me they weren’t reading this conversation prior to their follow either because they followed when they did and immediately commented when they did.

This is when out of the blue, they pivot out of nowhere to this whole language conversation that occurred from 8h26m59s regarding the meaning of my username (claiming they speak several languages, and asking “does my username mean what they think it does?”).  When you pose a question like that to someone else, it smells like a trap question.  Additionally, how is this pertinent to what was previously being discussed?  It’s not; it’s meant to derail the conversation into something else (something that a troll would do).  My first response at 8h29m05s was, “Depends… it’s actually derived from the swordsmith Muramasa Sengo”.  The fact that it is a name should’ve been enough but nope.

asilverlining replies to that at 8h29m55s with “Depending on the language. Mura means cheap/frugal/fragile and sama means same/similar/together.. so cheap together. or fragile together. etc”. They pretty much confirm they are referring to what it means in tagalog at this point at 8h30m30s.  Here’s the thing with people like this when they start getting in over their head about things they do not understand.  Google Translate sometimes defaults to the wrong source language and people like this who fail at comprehension, don’t realize that.  And trying to explain that to them will only yield more of this deflecting to something else (because people like this are good at dragging you down to their level; the fact that I wrote this post proves that I had to drop down to their level).  I know it is best to not “feed the troll”, but I needed to confirm this person was failing at their Google-fu capabilities/basic comprehension.

The response I gave them at 8h30m49s should have also ended it when I replied, “Mura in Japanese normally means village and that sama is normally an honorific”. Remember, I had also mentioned earlier that it was derived from the swordsmith who was named Muramasa Sengo (just the “m” and “s” are swapped).  It’s a NAME.  As soon as asilverlining replied at 8h31m28s “mura is not in japanese. sorry friend. check google translate”, I knew this person was grading “F” on both Google-fu and comprehension since they were now way in over their head in this discussion and/or actively trolling me.

8h33m13s, I wrote 村 is the kanji for Mura and that Japanese is contextual (where the kanji is an important part of that context), and they respond that “the words are made up”.  Really?  You cannot make this level of stupidity up (thus the alternative is that I am being trolled).  Naturally the word may exist in other languages but have completely different meanings.  But we are talking specifically about Japanese here (the streamer is Japanese, and the entire context of my username is Japanese given its relation to the swordsmith the name is derived from).  But when you are dealing with people like asilverlining who thinks they know what they are talking about (and/or are actively trolling you), well “garbage in, garbage out”.  You can just read the rest of the conversation/watch the VOD and see how they ended up trying to do this runaround because they had little clue what they were talking about/were actively trolling me.

8h36m45s, asilverlining asks for “the letter” for mura which I gave them at 8h33m13s (who calls kanji “the letter”?).  At that point, I knew I was dealing with either A) someone trying to troll me and failing miserably at Google-fu or B) an actual idiot (I’m thinking it’s a combination of both).  I respectfully told them “let’s just agree to disagree” but they wanted to continue (trying to make it like the interest in my name should’ve flattered me which it didn’t).  Remember, the person who started this conversation was asilverlining (and I gave them a way out to just end it — but nope).

At 8h38m43, asilverlining now mentions what I had originally told them regarding the meaning for mura being about meaning village in Japanese (again exemplifying how they clearly did not comprehend what I had wrote earlier and/or are actively trolling me).  8h42m34s pretty much ended the conversation for me when they said, “you said you didn’t know the meaning?” and “so you have no seat in that logic”.  Really?  When you try to put words in my mouth this way and then tell me I am wrong, you are barking up the wrong tree.  Then to give this patronizing attitude of “thanks for talking with me boss”, you are asking for this public flaming.

Nowhere in this entire conversation did I write “I don’t know”.  If this asilverlining believes that the 8h29m05s “Depends…. it’s actually derived from the swordsmith (Muramasa Sengo)” is me saying “I don’t know”, that proves they are an idiot that lacks basic reading comprehension skills.  This is why I “blocked that idiot” at 8h43m33s (and I stand by the idiot part based on this entire waste of an hour).  Thanks for wasting my time you idiot!
