Rumored announcement date for the event is September 10th.
It’s not clear yet if Apple Intelligence will be fueling an upgrade super cycle for the 16. Myself, I am not sure yet if I will be upgrading from my iPhone 14 (Apple Intelligence isn’t a driving force for me to upgrade). My iPhone upgrade cycle since the 6 Plus has been in the 4-year range; 6 Plus (2014) -> XR (2018) -> 14 (2022). Prior to that, it was 4s (2011) -> 5s (2013) -> 6 Plus (2014).
The Plus was more of an experiment with a larger display phone (bridging the gap between it and my iPad mini which I did end up using far less). After 4 years though, I eventually didn’t care for the physical form factor heft (plus the battery was close to requiring replacement where it made more sense to just upgrade). The XR and 14 physical size is around the maximum I want to go (16 should be around the same). I guess it is going to come down to whatever is actually announced.
