This is coming from a company that has to deal with razor thin margins (which as this and other articles have noted, has former Wal-mart CEO Lee Scott stating that MCX was meant to get away from paying the 2% credit card transaction fees, and didn’t care if it was successful or not so long as Visa suffered).
That is NOT putting the consumers best interests first (that is just Wal-mart spin); the way the entire process works is telling enough what a kludge it actually is.
True, it is still too early in the mobile payments world to know which of the various systems will eventually be the leader. What I do know at least for myself is that even with rewards/discounts, MCX is a no-go with me (I’m not tying my bank account information to any wide ranging system like this).
