Back on March 11, 2011, the port town of Ofunato in Iwate Prefecture saw its levees over topped by a massive wall of water.

The above video was taken hillside of the main port area by the president of a confectionery which had several factories in the area. As shown in the video, the water nearly reached the top of the 2nd floor of his newly built building; this initial wave and the subsequent ones that followed essentially devastated the town several kilometers in-land (satellite image below):
The following video was shot on March 11, 2012 from a hillside residential area further south from the above video. At exactly 2:46PM, a chime sounded on the public address/warning system to signal a moment of silence to remember the events of the past year.
