NHK news is in emergency broadcast mode now and reporting a major earthquake off the northeast coast of Honshu. Some parts reporting 7 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale (which is the highest and considered devastating). Major tsunami warnings for areas along the Pacific coast of Honshu.
This screen from the broadcast shows estimated wave heights up to 6m (around 18 feet) for Miyagi-ken. That’s huge. Which means the Pacific Ocean will have warnings going up by the PTWC. People need to use common sense and get to higher ground immediately (forget about official warnings and innundation zone maps).
